Thebe Tourism Group acquires Planning Southern Africa

Thebe Tourism Group, one of South Africa’s leading tourism groups, has gained a major foothold in the South American tourism market ahead of the 2010 World Cup, through the acquisition of in-bound tour operator, Planning Southern Africa, via its incentive travel company, helloAFRICA.

This follows the Thebe Tourism Group’s recent acquisitions in August of a 25.5% shareholding in retail travel agency Club Travel and 100% of luxury coach company Windward Tours.

Planning SA, which has been in existence since 2002, specializes in individual travel and organized tours within Southern Africa for inbound travelers from South America and Spain.

“Through this acquisition, Thebe Tourism Group is well positioned to broaden its client base in Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking markets. Planning SA has an excellent reputation in these markets and we are indeed fortunate that we will be able to continue our relationship with Planning SA Director, Alex Caubert Miller, who will remain in a business development capacity in South America.

The acquisition adds to Thebe Tourism Group’s positioning as the leading black-owned and controlled tourism group. Thebe Tourism Group, a subsidiary of Thebe Investment Corporation, includes in- and out-bound travel, car hire, foreign exchange, retail, conference and exhibition organizers, luxury yachts and touring vehicles. TTG also manages facilities at key tourism destinations including the Cape Point concession.
